About Our Project

Create Connect Make is a project between Keighley Library, arts organisation The Leap and artist Jean McEwan, working together with local people in Keighley to grow, test and support new ideas for community-led creativity and culture.

We would like to find out: how you are creative; what creative things you enjoy doing; what creative activities you want to see, do, or grow more of in Keighley.

This infographic explains the different steps of the project.

Create Connect Make is an open invitation to people in Keighley to get involved with making creative activities happen with Keighley Library. The project is all about supporting creativity and culture that is led by the community.

We began the project in Autumn 2021 by holding a series of creative sessions with members of the public and local community organisations KAWACC and Roshni Ghar to find out how people in Keighley are creative and to generate ideas for new creative events they’d like to see, do and make happen in the Library and around Keighley. We found out that people are creative in so many ways in their everyday lives.

Our next steps are to try out some of the ideas that people come up with in our ‘Test Phase’ - along with library staff, volunteers and artists we will be supporting local people to put on some events in Spring and Summer 2022.

After that we will reflect on and share what we learned by creating a resource like a case study or toolkit so that other libraries, artists and communities can learn from what we did.
